Russell Westbrook Notches 42nd Triple-Double, Breaking Oscar Robertson's Record

Oklahoma City is coming off a 106-105 win at Denver this past weekend to move to 46-34 overall.

With two games to go in the regular season, Russell Westbrook may have cemented his case for MVP with an historic Sunday night.

The Oklahoma City star is resting for the game on Tuesday night in Minnesota, the first time this season he has missed a game.

Russell Westbrook made National Basketball Association history on Sunday as he broke Oscar Robertson's triple-double record with his 42nd of an incredible individual campaign. The last player for the franchise with more than one triple-double in a season was Gary Payton, in 2002, when the team was the Seattle SuperSonics. Small forwards Doug McDermott and Andre Roberson will also not play because of sore knees.

- Westbrook has averaged 31.9 points per game, over a point more than Robertson did in 61-62, when he put up 30.8 per match.

While his awed contemporaries said it best; this has been the season of Westbrook.

Even after losing Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors in the summer, the Thunder are back in the postseason as the Western Conference's No.6 seed, in large part because of Westbrook's heroics. Westbrook responded by saying, "If I wanted to get 10 assists, I can get 10 assists".

Westbrook had 23 points, a dozen boards and half a dozen assists by the time the Thunder went to the locker room trailing 53-52 at halftime at the Pepsi Center. "Everywhere I've been the crowd's been like that", Westbrook said.

NOTES: Wilson Chandler had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Denver. Ultimately, he's going to be the one who's going to make that decision.

Westbrook achieved the feat while putting up 50 points, with an incredible buzzer-beating three-pointer sealing victory over the Denver Nuggets.

Rockets 135, Kings 128: James Harden had 35 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds for his 21st triple-double of the season, leading Houston past Sacramento.

The rest issue has become a big one in the league this season, and Commissioner Adam Silver said last week that "there was no more important issue for the league right now" as it looks to reduce the number of times teams rest multiple key players in a game, particularly one on national television. Next on the list is Jason Kidd, who had 107 career triple-doubles.

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the T'Wolves are favored at home in this game, as they are getting odds of -4.5 points against the Thunder.

The Thunder have made the playoffs which start next week, but are not generally seen as a contender this year.
