This base version also makes the F-Type version the lightest in the family - tipping the scales at 3,360 pounds (1,524 kilograms).

Looking for a more affordable and more efficient alternative to the Jaguar F-Type?

How fast is the four-cylinder Jaguar F-type? If you're thinking a 2.0-litre engine sounds a bit puny, we'd suggest you're unlikely to feel too short changed in performance terms, because this entry-level vehicle still runs 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds, and it weighs 50-odd kilos less than the lightest F-Type up until now, so it should handle that bit more sharply than the cars higher up the range.

Jaguar's big news at the 2017 New York Motor Show is the introduction of a new engine for the F-Type sports auto.

Chelsea carried closer to Premier League title with win over Bournemouth
After losing to Crystal Palace, we played City and could have dropped points and today we could have dropped points. Nevertheless, the character shown in the last week has given Chelsea fans few reasons to doubt their team.

Coupled exclusively (for the time being at least) to an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, the four-cylinder F-Type is quoted to crack 60 miles per hour from a standstill in 5.4 seconds and top out at 155. So it's quicker in a straight line, should be more nimble in the bends, and uses 16 per cent less fuel than the V6 (39.2mpg combined).

The new 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder Jaguar F-Type is a lighter, more athletic, less expensive, most enthusiast-focused version of the British sports auto yet. Jaguar has assured the world that the air intake and exhaust have been "meticulously tuned to delivery renowned F-Type sound", but we'll be reserving judgement until we hear this beast for ourselves. Porsche, don't forget, has succumbed to pressure and gone four-cylinder in the Boxster and Cayman, too. An active exhaust is standard on the four-cylinder model, and this can be further tweaked with a switchable active exhaust on the R-Dynamic trim cars. "Even so, this vehicle has its own unique character, and the new single tailpipe finisher exemplifies this".

Design-wise, the 2018 Jaguar F-Type comes with redesigned bumpers, optional full LED headlights, and a single tailpipe finisher at the rear to distinguish it from the twin central exhausts and quad outboard exhausts of the V6 and V8 models. With 148bhp per litre, it actually has the highest specific power output of the F-type range, and with 295lb ft of torque spread from 1500 to 4500rpm it should offer plenty of in-gear shove.

These tech boosts join the party alongside new lightweight magnesium-frame seats and driver assistance systems, including emergency autonomous braking, lane keep assist and a driver alertness monitor.
