Pope Francis has opened a free launderette in Rome in the latest of a series of initiatives aimed at the poor that has included help with housing, showers, haircuts, meals and medical care.

Hundreds of young people led the procession into St. Peter's Square and later, youths from Poland handed the World Youth Day cross to young representatives from Panama, where the next worldwide gathering will be held in January in 2019.

Franciscan Sister Marialisa, 30, who shared her vocation story, is an example, the pope said.

Similarly, Paul Tijerino, 24, who was present at the prayer vigil along with a number of other Panamanian youth, said his message to the Church would be that "we do not get exhausted of following God, of always following his example, of being humble in what we do".

The Director of the Holy See Press Office, Greg Burke, told journalists April 10 that "the Pope's trip to Egypt proceeds as scheduled".

Trump's intelligence doubts parroted by Russia
Washington further claimed that Russian Federation had advance knowledge of the chemical strike - an assertion that Moscow denied. Alfano said the G7 did not want to put Russian Federation in a corner, but rather sought a constructive relationship with Moscow.

Both Vatican and diplomatic sources said a number of events might have to take place in one location, such as the presidential palace, so as to limit the number of times the pope would have to move around in the city.

Francis has made defence of the environment a key plank of his papacy, strongly backing scientific opinion that global warming is caused mostly by human activity. However, after hearing the witness of a Franciscan sister and a young man who was pulled from the rubble of his school after it collapsed in an natural disaster in 2002, killing his teacher and 27 classmates, Francis set his text aside and took notes instead, also a usual situation when he talks to the youth.

Young people must harness their energy and ideals and set out, "one alongside another, but looking to the future", he said. In many parts of Italy much was done. But local bishops shouldn't wait until the results come out, Farrell said, or even until WYD Panama, to begin working with young people.

"Pope Francis' Laundry" opened its doors to the public on Monday. "I am not going to get involved in that", he said. The bloody persecution has driven more than 250 Christian families from the city of al-Arish, scattering them among 13 different provinces. Many parishes in Rome opened their doors to receive them, and I know that others, which did not have any space in the church, collected money to pay rent for people and families in need for a full year.
