Democratic Govs. Jerry Brown of California and Andrew Cuomo of NY said in a joint statement that they will help fill the void left by Trump's decision to unravel former President Barack Obama's plan to curb global warming.
The Clean Power Plan was seen as a cornerstone of COP 21, the latest major carbon-focused climate initiative that former President Obama agreed to without taking part in the formal treaty process. "Dirty coal power is never coming back because it can't compete with clean energy, and denial won't make climate change go away".
"There are no emergency rooms for planets", he said.
Hans Joachim Schellnhumber, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany, said: "Donald Trump's attempt to turn the USA into a Jurassic Park run by dinosaur energy will eventually fail". They warned that health and prosperity of all Americans is at risk - as are Maryland's Chesapeake Bay and communities along our coastlines.
Some critics say the Trump administration's environmental rollbacks are even worse than they expected, and that it will be impossible for the United States to achieve its Paris pledges without the programs and protections that are being cut. "American leadership was critical to securing the Paris climate accord - but with that agreement in force, the rest of the world has embarked on a low-carbon path regardless of what Washington chooses to do", said Dr Nathaniel Keohane, who heads the global climate programme at the Environmental Defence Fund.
"China wants to take over the role of the U.S.as a climate leader, and they've baked it into their five-year (economic) plans", she added.
Ala. Gov. Robert Bentley Resigns Because He's a Messy Thot
Bentley's efforts to dispose of the recordings led to numerous misuse of funds accusations he would later plead guilty to. Robert Bentley has officially resigned as Alabama's governor, according to supernumerary District Attorney Ellen Brooks.
In a press release, Dayton called the executive order "damaging" stating, "Even as the Trump Administration seeks to roll back a decade of hard-fought progress, Minnesota will not flinch". Acting in their self-interest, China, India and the European Union will continue on their chosen paths, which include renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reduction of emissions from other sectors.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters at his daily briefing that White House aides "are now reviewing issues related to the agreement".
"I think it's important that the United States maintain its seat at the table in the conversation on how to address threats of climate change".
The signing of the executive order was met with astonishment around the world, and many voices have spoken out against the wisdom of the move.
"This order doesn't mean withdrawing from the Paris Agreement". And environmental policymakers from around the world took the Clean Power Plan as a sign that the USA was committed to meeting its pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions more than 25% from 2005 levels by 2025. The Obama administration established the plan in 2015 requiring states to begin cutting power plant emissions by 2022.
"As the U.S. is, historically, the largest polluter, its failure to meet worldwide commitments will undermine the Paris Agreement that was signed by 195 countries in 2015 to fight climate change".
