The state Senate has approved a $5-billion-a-year plan to boost California's gas and vehicle taxes to pay for major road repairs.

Again, Gov. Jerry Brown proposes an increase in gas taxes to fix roads.

A vote on the Democrats' proposal is likely next Thursday, April 6.

Republicans painted the plan as the "greatest tax hike in California history", and said the bill includes no guarantee that the additional tax revenue will actually be spent on transportation projects.

While the Assembly voted 54 to 26 supporting the bill SB1, the Senate passed it earlier in the night with 27 to 11 votes.

Legislative leaders were certain they had enough votes to clear the Assembly as well, sources said.

"This is mostly about fixing what we already have", the governor said at a Capitol press conference last week. In 2012, Brown convinced voters to approve a higher income tax on the wealthy. One Democrat in the Senate and one Assembly Democrat voted against the bill. However, the bill did not get the super-majority vote it needed to be passed. Last minute bill amendments, such as to add earmarks to win support from reluctant lawmakers, has always been the practice in the Capitol.

The bill, SB1, is the first major legislation that must comply with an initiative approved previous year by voters that requires lawmakers to publish legislation for three days before voting on it. Brown and De León agreed to provide $500 million for projects in Cannella's district, including the extension of a commuter rail line from the Bay Area to Merced. Richard Roth, D-Riverside, and Assemblywoman Sabrina Cervantes, D-Corona. The Democratic governor testified in support of the package at committee hearings and caucused with Democratic leaders throughout the week. One Republican senator, Anthony Cannella, voted for the measure.

Petrol, diesel prices to change on daily basis from May 1
Indian private fuel retailers - Reliance Industries and Essar Oil - are expected to follow their state peers, the sources added. To begin with, daily revision of fuel prices will be implemented in Puducherry and Vizag, Udaipur, Jamshedpur and Chandigarh.

The bill also earmarks $472 million for the Riverside County Transportation Efficiency Corridor in Democratic Sen.

Residents and some state leaders have said they oppose the tax, citing that Californians already face some of the highest taxes in the nation. John Moorlach, R-Costa Mesa.

Republicans objected to a tax increase they said would exacerbate economic problems for families struggling to make ends meet.

The measure will increase the excise tax on gasoline by $0.12 a gallon from the current $0.28 and on diesel fuel by $0.20 cents a gallon, among other fees, over 10 years. Diesel taxes will more than double to 36 cents a gallon.

• The sales tax on diesel fuel increases by four percentage points. Those increases would begin November 1, while the vehicle registration increase would be effective January 1. "Our roads suck", Rendon said. In terms of prioritizing, it will be up to cities and counties to determine what streets and expressways they want to spend their share of the money on.

On behalf of Americans for Tax Reform and our supporters across California, I urge you to reject Gov. It would also be indexed to increase with inflation beginning in 2020. He said that will significantly slash emissions in the state. But the two groups said it could lead to the creation of marijuana monopolies. Now to remedy their incompetence, the solution according to our Democratic governor and the Democratic legislature is to raise taxes!

For the last several days, it appeared that Brown and the Democratic champions of Senate Bill 1 were still trying to secure the votes - after a week of back-to-back rallies and arm-twisting of Democratic holdouts such as Sen. Lawmakers saying "I promise to tax you some more and not steal the money" is like the man who pledges to stop beating his wife.
