Ruth Wilson (Luther), and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Mary Poppins Returns) were on hand to share new details about the series and hint at the epic fantasy that lies in store. With her new device and natural curiosity, Lyra finds herself in the center of a power struggle around Dust, as Mrs. Coulter (Wilson) and others yearn to control it.

Miranda was joined by his co-stars Dafne Keen, James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson for a panel at Comic-Con in San Diego on Friday. Main character Lyra Belacqua's (Keen) daemon is a snow-white ermine voiced by Archie Barnes.

His Dark Materials will be released in late 2019. A new trailer is here, hot on the heels of HBO's Comic-Con presentation. Judging by the rough metal of the armour this is Iorek Byrnison, the exiled warrior who helps Lyra on her quest, and not his vain, gold-armoured rival Iofur Raknison. It's the story of young Lyra (Logan star Dafne Keen) who embarks on a global adventure when she's thrust into a mystery surrounding missing children and a particle called Dust which holds vast secrets to the universe.

The new movie will skewer reboots , remakes, and sequels while simultaneously being all three at the same time. The cast also included Kevin Smith's wife, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith , and daughter, Harley Quinn Smith .

HBO's banking on His Dark Materials to be their next Game of Thrones-like phenomenon.

If you're unfamiliar with the series or it's just been a while, those animal companions - called daemons - are the physical manifestation of a person's soul. And also one heavily-armored polar bear, who just absolutely steals the show here. In 2007, director Chris Weitz adapted the first book of the His Dark Materials trilogy, The Golden Compass, for the big screen with stars Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott, Eva Green, and Ian McKellen. Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and unsafe secrets, with the fate of both the living -and the dead- in their hands.
