Democratic representative Rashida Tlaib said on Friday that she would not visit her grandmother in the occupied West Bank, despite being granted an Israeli permit on humanitarian grounds, saying Israel's "oppressive" conditions aimed to humiliate her. Israel barred Tlaib and another Democrat Ilhan Omar from visiting Jerusalem and the West Bank over their support for the worldwide boycott movement following an unprecedented appeal from President Trump to deny them entry. This week, Israel barred them from coming. "I have decided that visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions stands against everything I believe in - fighting against racism, oppression & injustice". It would kill a piece of me.

Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan, who leads Israel's fight against the boycott movement, tweeted Friday morning, "The request from Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib to visit her grandmother should be approved".

On Thursday night, in the midst of the controversy over the barring of Omar and Tlaib, Trump continued his fascistic demagogy at a campaign-style rally in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Tlaib's relatives said they had wanted her to be able to visit as part of a delegation which was to include Omar, and are incensed by the restrictions being put on her visit. Permission was quickly granted, whereupon Tlaib obnoxiously turned the approval down, a complete setup.

Far be it from me to suggest, as Deri has, that Tlaib cares more about this political spectacle than her own grandmother, but whatever the case, Israel opened the door, and Tlaib refused to walk through it. This could be my last opportunity to see her.

Tlaib shook her head no.

We are no longer "like sheep to the slaughter". "I love her and am so proud of her". Omar and Tlaib from entering the country due to their support of the BDS movement.

Israel sees the movement as a strategic threat and accuses it of anti-Semitism - a claim activists deny - and in 2017 passed a law banning entry to foreigners supporting a boycott.

The spectacle of Israel telling a sitting USA congresswoman what they can say and what positions they can advocate for indicates how low United States prestige has fallen in the world.

A sign alerts Palestinians to an Israeli military checkpoint near the home of U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib's grandmother and family in the West Bank village of Beit Ur Al-Fauqa.

Omar and Tlaib's trip was not only anti-Israel, but pro-terrorist.

"After countless zigzags between what is right for Israel and what is right for Trump, Netanyahu chose Trump", analyst Shimrit Meir wrote in the top-selling Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot.

She said she spoke to her grandmother on the phone and said she was told by her that she wouldn't take her last breath without seeing her again. "It's two separate things", Telushkin said.

For those that question Israel's legitimacy as a democracy in barring these haters and subversives (perhaps yet another form of anti-Semitism as others do in even questioning Israel's legitimate right to exist), it is actually the opposite-this is the right and exercise of every democracy to have its elected representatives protect its people.
