Israeli Police, Palestinians Worshippers Clash at Jerusalem Holy Site

On Saturday, Israeli troops killed four Palestinian militants who the army said had tried to carry out a cross-border attack.

It is the holiest site for Jews and the third holiest for Muslims. Tisha B'Av is the two-day mourning for destruction of the two Jerusalem temples and, by extension, other calamities that happened to the Jewish people.

Israeli police stepped in to disperse Palestinians gathered at Jerusalem's Temple Mount/Noble Sanctuary site at the start of the Muslim festival of Eid Al-Adha on Sunday, with several people injured in the confrontations.

In a bid to ease tensions, police had reportedly barred Jewish visits to the site on Sunday, but Muslim worshippers still feared they would be allowed in and protested there.

There were rumors among the Muslims that some radical Jews were planning to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday.

The holy site is controlled by the Jordanian Waqf, which issued a formal complaint to Israel.

The court however denied any early hearing and said that the matter needed to be listed before the Chief Justice of India first. The restrictions on public movement throughout Kashmir have forced people to stay indoors and closed shops and even clinics.

"Israel bears full responsibility for storming Al Aqsa and fueling religious tensions in Jerusalem", said PLO official Dr. Hanan Daoud Mikhael Ashrawi.

Palestinians heroically confronted on Sunday brutal Israeli attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque, with dozens hurt, including Grand Al-Quds Mufti.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised intelligence and security forces for locating and arresting the suspects. Jewish extremists have called for destroying the mosque and rebuilding the Biblical temple.

The compound is in east Jerusalem, which Israel captured in the 1967 war along with the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, territories the Palestinians claim as a future state. It also includes Church of the Holy Sepulchre, one of the most sacred Christian sites in the world. The Israeli-Palestinian peace process has been moribund for at least a decade, and the Palestinians have cut ties with the Trump administration over what they see as its unfair bias toward Israel.

"We hold Hamas responsible and accountable for any acts of violence emanating from the Gaza Strip whether they were Hamas operatives or not", he said at a briefing with reporters.
