The issue persists even if you use a genuine, authorized Apple battery, iFixit says.

"Battery Health" is a way to monitor your phone's battery performance day to day. In its place users are greeted with a "Service" indicator in a not-so-subtle hint that they should take their phone to a Genius Bar or authorised Apple fix service. "Health information is not available for this battery". The device will provide deeper access to the underlying software and operating system that will make it easier for vulnerabilities to be discovered. According to their report, the software lock appears to have been introduced to iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max models running the latest iOS 12 version or the iOS 13 beta. But Apple has been trying to prevent the consumers from fixing iPhones on their own or appealing to third-party services since a long time ago.

Apple usually reserves the Service notice for when it detects your battery needs replacing because it's close to the end of its lifespan. Thanks to a change on Apple's part, you'll be basically left with a permanent warning message if you do. So if you replace your iPhone's battery independently, you may be missing out on that necessary authentication key. An Apple patent application that surfaced in February also describes a flexible display device, with images that seemingly show a smartphone that folds in half from top to bottom.

The Art of fix notes that Apple batteries contain a Texas Instruments microcontroller that provides information to the iPhone about the battery such as capacity and temperature. Such a procedure will do away with the Service message and restore the Battery Health feature as well. iFixit, however, notes that such a "procedure isn't for the faint of heart, and it's an unreasonable requirement for any fix, much less something as simple as a battery swap". Apple said in its recent fiscal third quarter earnings results that iPhone sales had dropped by 11.8%, although other product segments like wearables had boomed. Recently, Apple also started disabling TrueTone on screen replacements even if you are using a genuine iPhone screen. It's meant to scare people back to an Apple Store.
