Cuba Gooding Jr. hands himself in to NYPD following sexual misconduct allegation

Cuba Gooding Jr.'s lawyer is vigorously defending him after it was alleged that the Oscar victor groped a woman's breast earlier this week at a New York City bar.

AFP news agency reports that a police spokesman confirmed that the 51-year-old Gooding - who won an Academy Award in 1997 for his performance as a football player in Jerry Maguire - had surrendered on Thursday, but would not comment on the nature of the complaint.

Heller said he doubted the accuser would show up at court hearings and suggested prosecutors should charge her with perjury if she testified in court and her allegations were contradicted by video.

Gooding denied groping anyone during a brief interview with TMZ, telling the outlet, "I trust the system and the process will speak for itself".

Heller said that he had not heard back after reaching out to the Sex Crimes Unit of the Manhattan District Attorney's Office about whether their office has seen the video.

Heller also disputed allegations in media reports from a second woman said to have come forward in recent days, who told police Gooding grabbed her buttocks at a ny restaurant in 2008.

"I have known Cuba for nearly 30 years and his conduct towards women is always respectful", he says.

Gooding's attorney, Mark J. Heller, said he was "completely confident that (Gooding) will be totally exonerated". In that case, a bartender said the actor was agitated with patrons who wanted photos with him and that he pushed her when she asked him to leave.

That same year, he was also accused of pushing a female bartender in New Orleans and a warrant was issued for his arrest. "And now I'm giving the process the chance to show what really happened, what went down".

The actor told TMZ that he was at the bar partying with friends but didn't touch anyone.

Security video shows that Gooding left the club soon after.

The bar, on the roof of the Moxy Hotel near Times Square, features a mini-golf course and sweeping views of the Empire State Building and other famous city landmarks. His character's signature line, "Show me the money", became a catchphrase.
