Prosecutors said that a search of her hotel room had revealed nine USB drives, five sim cards, a fifth mobile phone, $8,000 in cash and a "signal detector radio frequency device", which could be used to detect eavesdropping equipment such as hidden cameras.
As word spread Monday that Secret Service director Randolph "Tex" Alles was leaving, a Secret Service agent took the stand to testify about the woman who had allegedly gained unauthorized access to President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago club on March 30 and could be engaged in a spying operation.
Still, Zhang has not been truthful in her answers to questions from American law enforcement, Garcia said. Those are in addition to the four cellphones, a laptop computer and a thumb drive containing malware that agents seized when they arrested her.
A prosecutor said Zhang arrived in the USA on March 28 at Newark Liberty International Airport. "She did not have the type of devices that can be associated with espionage activities", Adler said, according to The Washington Post. She previously visited the U.S.in September 2018, December 2017, and July 2016, according to prosecutors.
At the hearing, prosecutors also reportedly alleged that Zhang "lies to everyone she encounters", specifically during an earlier court appearance that concerned her financial assets in the USA, per CNN.
Zhang has been charged with making false statements to a federal officer and entering or remaining in a restricted area, charges that carry up to a five-year sentence in federal prison if she is convicted.
The bond hearing was adjourned until next Monday, April 15. Her federal public defender, Robert Adler, requested the extension to next week because he said Zhang needs more time to have someone from China offer collateral for a bond for her release and help her find housing before a trial.
Brock Lesnar losing at WrestleMania hints at likely UFC return
After a dominant first run, he then forged a career in UFC, which was cut short by illness, before returning to WWE in 2012. Rollins is the first WWE superstar below 250 pounds to beat Lesnar via pinfall or submission since Eddie Guerrero in 2004.
Audio and video surveillance at Mar-a-Lago didn't catch Zhang's entrance to the club - because those surveillance devices weren't used by the Secret Service at the entry checkpoint. At first, she told a special agent at Mar-a-Lago she wanted to visit the pool at the beach club. However, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been investigating the Zhang incident as part of a Chinese espionage effort.
"She lies to everyone she encounters", prosecutor Rolando Garcia told the court, according to CNN. He stated that when another agent put Zhang's thumb-drive into his computer, it immediately began to install files, a "very out-of-the-ordinary" event that he had never seen happen before during this kind of analysis.
There are "a lot of questions that remain to be answered", he said. He pointed out that Zhang made no attempt to hide her electronic gear while entering Mar-a-Lago and agreed to be interviewed for nearly nine hours. There's no evidence Zhang ever approached the president and it is believed he was at his nearby golf course when she arrived. After communication with the woman proved hard due to a perceived language barrier, staff at the club became convinced she was related to a member who has the same surname.
There's been some dispute over how well Ms Zhang speaks and understands English, though the court did provide her with a language interpreter at the previous court hearing.
Ivanovich's testimony adds to concerns the Secret Service is not out ahead of potentially malicious forces seeking to get close to the USA president.
He said Zhang had planned to attend a United Nations Chinese-American friendship event, and he showed a $20,000 wire transfer Zhang made in February as proof of her honest effort to attend the gathering she thought was taking place at Mar-a-Lago.
