Trade analysts predict that the Captain Marvel will close its first weekend in the United States at $160 million box office collection. But it's rarer for the star of a film to appear in a random theater on the other side of the country. Larson is set to reprise the role of Carol Danvers in Avengers: Endgame, which opens in theaters just over a month after Captain Marvel.
Captain Marvel is the latest bona fide blockbuster for Marvel Studios, and with little to challenge it over the next few weeks, the sky's the limit for the film's cosmic hero. It seems likely that many felt drawn to the film's societal benchmarks, being the first female-led Marvel movie, as well as the first to feature a female director.
Captain America's Chris Evans took notice of the film's already impressive numbers (how can you not?) and took to Twitter to congratulate his fellow Marvel star.
But "Captain Marvel" continues a streak of box-office juggernauts about women and people of color.
We'll have to keep a watch to see if Captain Marvel will keep cruising at the box office once Shazam! enters the competition in April.

Captain Marvel ended up making over Rs 40 crores as per the first weekend at the box office collection in India. "All we kept thinking was 'Oh my God, it's really her, and how can we get a picture for my cousins?' " Thankfully, Brie was happy to oblige, and many fans left the theatre with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. However, not only in this country, Captain Marvel is at a record rate.
"I just heard I was on the cups and popcorn, so I had to see for myself", Larson told fans.
It's now riding a very respectable 80 percent "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
