Dalai Lama: 'Doklam not serious issue; India provides freedom to people'

The standoff between India and China on the Sikkim border is not a very serious issue, the Dalai Lama said in New Delhi on Wednesday, IANS reported.

Dharamsala's Himachal Pradesh-based Buddhist leader conveys that the Doklam standoff is not at all a serious issue and the neighbours India-China must get along to live side by side peacefully.

"Eventually, "Hindi-Chini- Bhai Bhai" is the only way; the two big nations, you have to live side by side", Dalai Lama said while attending a programme here. "There is freedom in this country, I can do more and have more opportunity to share my views", the spiritual leader said.

The rhetoric here is similar: India should unilaterally withdraw its troops from Doklam, the Bhutanese territory where China built roads a couple of months ago, and now claims that even Bhutan says it belongs to China. "Our small Tibetan community fully practices democracy. Speaking on democracy and freedom of the press, Dalai Lama shared his belief that Communist Party of China may start following and practicing democracy if the people of China wished to". That's the only way", he said, in response to a question after delivering the annual Rajendra Mathur Lecture on "Importance of Independent Press and Ethics' organised by the Editors Guild of India. Two big nations will have to live side by side.

NOAA now predicting more active hurricane season
That's double the number of storms that normally form by early August and almost half during an average six-month season. Forecasters are also predicting 2-5 major hurricanes, which is an increase from May's report of 2-4 major hurricanes.

Indian and Chinese troops have been locked in a standoff at a remote but strategically important Himalayan plateau near where Tibet, India and Bhutan meet.

The message to maintain peace comes from Dalai Lama amid the tensions prevailing between India and China over the Dokhlam border. New Delhi is however firm on pullout of troops of both sides.

China is opposed to the Dalai Lama, who it regards as a separatist, visiting Arunachal Pradesh, particularly Tawang. As per the recent updates regarding the situation, China had issued a warning to India saying that if the Indian troops do not withdraw from Chinese territory than China will have to take strict actions against India.
