The board said it had received hundreds of letters in support of, and opposing, Simpson's parole. That much more high-profile case returned to public attention a year ago when two prestigious TV projects dug into the trial and the attention it commanded.
Simpson said he had apologized to one of the memorabilia dealers, who was a friend, and that his apology had been accepted.
Simpson, 70, was granted release in a parole hearing Thursday that was livestreamed from Carson City.
Simpson told the commissioners that he's missed 36 birthdays with his children while behind bars and missed their college graduations, and if he was to be paroled, he said he wants to spend as much time as he can with his family.
At a parole meeting in 2013, Simpson spoke out about what happened - and said he regrets the events that occurred in 2007.
Simpson appeared to wipe tears from his eyes after Fromong offered to pick him up from prison, if granted parole. I had no intent to commit a crime.
Neither Simpson or anyone present at the hearing discussed the 1995 "trial of the century", in which he stood accused of stabbing Goldman more than two dozen times and of cutting his ex-wife's throat so deep that her head was almost severed from her body.
