We would like to welcome Linda Johnson Rice, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Johnson Publishing Company (JPC), and James Murdoch, Chief Executive Officer of 21st Century Fox (21CF), to Tesla's board of directors. James claims an "instrumental" role in 21st Century Fox's "decade-long leadership on environmental sustainability" in his Tesla board member bio. Rice has also served on the board of companies like Bausch & Lomb, Continental Bank, Quaker Oats, Dial Corporation, MoneyGram and Omnicom Group. In addition to being a key driver of 21CF's domestic and worldwide expansion, James has been instrumental in the company's robust social impact initiatives, including its decade-long leadership on environmental sustainability. She now is now on boards of Omnicom Group and GrubHub. Earlier this year, Tesla faced criticism from some shareholders who urged the company to change the way it elects board members, advocating for yearly elections rather than the company's staggered-election practice. The appointments expand Tesla's board to nine people, including Tesla CEO, Elon Musk.
Tesla's board is comprised of Musk, his brother, Kimbal Musk; Antonio Gracias, the founder of a private-equity firm and a director at Musk's rocket company SpaceX; Ira Ehrenpreis, a venture capitalist and SpaceX investor; Brad Buss, a former SolarCity chief financial officer; Steve Jurvetson, a venture investor and SpaceX director; and Robyn Denholm, the chief operating officer of Telstra Corp., Australia's largest telecommunications company.
Baboon causes massive power cut in Zambia
The baboon was handed over to the Zambia Wildlife Authority (Zawa) with serious injuries and is now recovering in intensive care. The plant is close to a national park but it is rare for animals to wander into the 108 megawatt power station.
Shares in Tesla dipped 0.245 to US$318.80 in United States pre-market trading.
The first 30 customers will receive the Model 3 on 28 July before the vehicle becomes available to the public at a base price of US$25,000, making it more affordable than the company's other ranges that typically sell for at least US$90,000.
