Top Cop Alleges Huge Corruption in Bengaluru Jail Involving Sasikala

H N Satyanarayana Rao on Thursday categorically denied all the allegations levelled by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) (Prisons) D Roopa in her report regarding former AIADMK general secretary V Sasikala getting VIP treatment in Parappana Agrahara central prison. "If she (Roopa) goes to the press and make false and baseless allegations, then the department will take suitable action", he said today. Hence, it is imperative and his (DGP Prisons') responsibility that he clear his name of these allegations, she mentioned in her report. This can be viewed on the CCTV screens installed in the DGP's chamber but no action has been taken, the report says.

However, Rao refuted the allegations and said he had not received copies of any such report.

Roopa also alleged that the senior staffers in the prison were permitting a lot of other illegal activities, and that even her head was aware of the violations of the rules but has not done much to rectify the situation.

It has been emerged that Sasikala, who is serving a four-year jail term in the infamous Jayalalithaa wealth case, has been provided with an inmate as a cook and to do her daily chores. It is being rumoured that 2 crores bribe has been given for this and allegations of your involvement is unfortunate.

The letter also points out that out of the 24 prisoners who were made to undergo a drug test recently, at least 18 tested positive. "If I had anything to hide, I would not have allowed her", he pointed out. "She has not given any report to me or the government against me or other jail officials".

The DG further said they would take action against DIG Roopa.

On Wednesday, Roopa, an IPS officer of 2000 batch, submitted a report to the state police chief Rupak Kumar Dutta and the Anti-Corruption Bureau, accusing Rao and other senior staff of the prison of indulging in gross irregularities and corrupt practices.
