China's Lenovo outdone by HP in market share in Q2

If Gartner would have fairly added the iPad and/or iPad Pro to the stats as with others selling tablets, shipments would have allowed Apple to soar past Lenovo in third spot if not Dell holding second spot. While the overall market remains in a slump, HP managed to improve its year-over-year sales and keep its position as the top PC vendor for the second quarter in a row. And while analyst firms IDC and Gartner both recorded sales slowdowns in the market, the reality was still somewhat better than the bleak predictions made by both firms earlier this year. Lenovo also suffered more in the U.S. with a 16.3% drop in shipments year-on-year.

According to data revealed by the Gartner, the overall all PC sales have fallen in the second quarter by 4.3 per cent from past year. The Mac's share of PC sales last quarter was down 9.6% over the same period a year ago. Apple rose one spot to end the quarter in fourth place with 4.24 million units shipped.

In the Q2 report, HP's PC shipments were 12.6 million with a market share of 20.8 percent.

It would seem that the slow decline of the PC market is still well on its way to dipping to ever lower figures, with shipments for Q2 putting the industry at its lowest in 10 years.

That slump hit Asus hardest, seeing a 40.1% dip in its share of the market last quarter, compared with the same period in 2016.

Chelsea agree £39.8m deal for Bakayoko; Matic to United?
The United chief wants a new holding player and is targeting Matic along with Tottenham's Eric Dier and Radja Nainggolan of Roma . Matic joined Chelsea from Benfica back in 2014 and has made over 100 appearances for the club since moving to England.

IDC also released its PC shipment estimates on Wednesday, and the numbers were comparatively more positive than Gartner's.

An IDC Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computer Device Tracker report put the figure at 60.5 million in a year-over-year decline of 3.3 percent. IDC's rankings, however, are the same as Gartner, with the top five spots held by HP, Lenovo, Dell, Apple and Asus, respectively.

Meanwhile, the worldwide PC market suffered a decrease in the total number of shipments for the 11th consecutive quarter, and it dropped by 4.3 percent to 61.1m in Q2.

The reason for the latest drop, per Gartner: There's a shortage of components like memory and LCD screens that are driving up manufacturing costs.

As CNET notes, practically ever PC company felt the impact of the shipment decline.
