Watters: 'Are the Democrats Sick of Losing Yet?'

Kathleen Rice, one of a small group who has gone public with the message that Pelosi should go, hosted a dozen Democrats in her office Thursday for an hour-long strategy session.

She's been under fire over the last couple days, with some of her own caucus members saying it's time for her to step down, and potential Democratic candidates planning to run against her in their campaigns.

"If we take back the House in 2018 then I think she'd stay leader", said Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz.

After the defeat of Jon Ossoff in Tuesday's special election for Georgia's 6th Congressional district, Democrats and liberals are waking up to Einstein's definition of insanity - doing the same thing repeatedly and each time expecting different results.

"That is why I'm able to attract the support that I do, which is essential to our elections, sad to say", Pelosi added, in a reference to her unparalleled fundraising hauls. He followed that up with a Wednesday morning memo, declaring, "The House is in play".

President Donald Trump's much-prophesied destruction of the Republican Party has yet to come to pass and, for now at least, appears to be mainly wishful thinking on the part of progressives.

"The Democratic Party needs new leadership now", Cunningham tweeted.

Moulton is one of the House Democrats who has been most vocal in calling for a new generation of leadership.

In the Netherlands, a Dutch foreign ministry spokeswoman told AFP she was not able to confirm the release. It was feared the kidnappings could disrupt peace talks the left-wing ELN is holding with the government.

"I don't think anyone who is truly left-of-center would be in a situation where they would have had a hard choice to make over Ossoff or Handel", Owens said.

Pelosi insisted that the current leadership structure already gives opportunities to younger members, telling reporters, "I have always featured the young 30-somethings. and they are so impressive".

And after she predicted incorrectly that Democrats were poised to take back the House past year, some of Pelosi's colleagues feel that this time around, she needs to deliver.

That tactic clearly paid off. Handel was able to defeat Ossoff by almost four points, despite Ossoff's historic fundraising numbers and the additional millions infused into the race by the national Democratic party.

"She will have to pick some issues she disagrees with the president on, going forward", the GOP aide said. They argue that Democratic candidates will have a better shot on Election Day if they're not tied to Pelosi. They also lost in Manhattan, Hollywood and Marin County, Calif., where all the donor money they blew on Ossoff came from.

Instead, he said Democrats need to focus on developing a message that wins over voters in Republican-leaning districts.

Democrats hold 193 seats and need to gain 24 to be in the majority.

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, had challenged Pelosi for her leadership position earlier this year, and agreed, during an interview on CNN Wednesday night, that Republicans' ads using her as a Democratic boogey-woman have been effective.
