House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, critically injured when he was shot during a congressional baseball practice, has been transferred out of intensive care, The Washington Post and Fox News reported Friday.
Ryan declined Thursday to give a specific medical update on Scalise, deferring to the doctors at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where the whip has been recuperating since last week's shooting the day before the annual Congressional Baseball Game.
Hodgkinson shot four people before U.S. Capitol Police officers took him down. When he arrived at MedStar Washington Hospital Center last Wednesday, the No. 3 House Republican "was as critical as can be", the hospital's director of trauma said.
Since he was in leadership, Scalise had a security detail with him at the baseball field when the shooting began.
