Boston Celtics Draft Talk: Josh Jackson Open To Playing In Boston

Tatum, the Duke forward projected to go in the top 6 during Thursday night's NBA Draft, said during Wednesday's media availability in NY that he held a private session for the Sixers.

After that is anyone's guess. The 76ers traded for Boston's top overall pick where they are widely expected to select Washington guard Markelle Fultz. Following them is the Suns at No. 4, and what they do will likely depend on the Celtics.

Josh Jackson's personality and blue-collar style of play would make him a huge hit in NY, where he would make a nice side income with endorsement opportunities, but he would play for the winning side more often if he played for the Celtics. It would be great to see the Celtics add to their already young core of Jaylen Brown, Terry Rozier and Marcus Smart. There is one that fits them and the way they play.

Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders reported Thursday that the Boston Celtics are attempting to acquire the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Meanwhile, Tatum has been impressing all-around, and has been part of the Celtics video room sessions, watching tape of his college games and Boston's games from past year, looking for similarities within the systems.

Tatum wound up having two sessions with the Celtics. Danny Ainge might trade the pick in a package for a star player, or trade back again to save cap space and gain future assets.

While many think Josh Jackson is a ideal fit for Boston, the draft is one day away and he has still not worked out for the team. I had no say in that. Teams don't tend to pick college juniors and seniors high, even though they are probably better players right now, because they don't have much more room to grow. But after they got the third pick, we tried to schedule something for me to get out there, but it was just scheduling issues and it was just a little too late for me to get out there by then.

"I talked about that with coach Stevens and he said guys at my size and my position and are able to hit open shots and defend the one through the four, it's hard not to play those guys so that's how he looks at using me if they were to draft me", Tatum said. I played with Frank for three years.

Jayson Tatum: The freshman forward from Duke University was hardly mentioned as a potential Celtics draft pick before they traded the #1 selection. They know his character, his work ethic, his team-first mentality, his willingness and preference to avoid drama and, above all, his desire to win.
