Whatever comes next, and the prosecutor has vowed to retry the case, the most important question the trial leaves unanswered is this: When are we going to update our antiquated statutes of limitations - the legal limits that a modern understanding of sexual assault should have forced us to rethink decades ago?

Attorney Eli Segal of Pepper Hamilton LLP, representing the media organizations, argued that the names of jurors is of "extraordinary public importance" and that news outlets have a First Amendment right to it.

Hoping to retry the Cosby case, Kevin R. Steele, the district attorney for Pennsylvania's Montgomery County, says the prosecution has a window of 365 days to officially do so.

Jurors returned home to Pittsburgh via charter bus around 6 p.m. Saturday.

Steele has already said that he will seek a second trial, and Constand's lawyer, Dolores Troiani, told ABC News that the way to win was to do things differently. It's unclear how many jurors voted for conviction and how many wanted an acquittal.

University of Richmond law professor Carl Tobias commented on the prospects for a new trial: "The fact that the case turned substantially on one person's testimony may have made it hard to win and the defense counsel made many efforts to undercut her testimony".

In it, Cosby referred to Gianna as "mum" as he recalled in graphic detail that he gave her daughter, then 31, an orgasm.

Judge Steven O'Neill fears there would be a chilling effect on jurors needed for Cosby's retrial if the first jury discusses the deliberations with the media. The jurors, they used their power to speak.

In recent years at least 60 women have accused Bill Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting them. Media from around the world descended on Norristown and packed two courtrooms to report on the proceedings and the more than 52 hours of jury deliberations that ended when the panel declared it was hopelessly deadlocked.

He said the jurors were completely mum on what caused the mistrial on the bus ride back to the hotel near the Norristown courthouse. Cosby claims their contact was consensual and that the pills he gave her were ordinary Benadryl, though he has admitted on-record that he gave women quaaludes for sex in the 1970s.

"She's a very spiritual woman, she believes things happen for a goal, and I think the objective is.it should encourage other women to come forward and have their day in court".

The nature of the split among the jurors was not revealed.

It's possible the next jury could be selected in another county so as not to place too heavy of a burden on Allegheny County, where Pittsburgh is located, said Dennis McAndrews, a former Philadelphia-area prosecutor.

Steele said Constand "has shown such courage through this" and is prepared to move forward with a retrial.

Cosby remains free on $1 million bail in the criminal case.

Cosby, the actor and comedian once known as "America's Dad", was charged with three felony counts of aggravated indecent assault. "'Probably' does not win criminal trials".
