BOSTON (AP) - Ted Williams waited 24 years after his last at-bat before the Boston Red Sox hung his No. 9 from the Fenway Park facade.

Ortiz took the field to a raucous ovation. "And you're not our teammate, you're not our friend, you're our family".
A teary-eyed Ortiz only removed his sunglasses when it was time to address the crowd.
"Everyone has stories on me", Ortiz told the media in attendance. Gronkowski immediately called out Big Papi for his love of donuts, a nod to their series of Dunkin' Donuts music videos, before moving down the line to the others. I thank God every day for giving me the opportunity to have the career that I have.
Now that's a poignant image for a left-handed slugger at Fenway Park.

Witnesses at the scene said he appeared to suffer a medical episode in the moments before the attack happened. The attack was the fourth in Britain in three months, killing a total of 36 people and injuring around 200.
Manager Mike Scioscia said he thinks he was too amped up, but Meyer disagreed. He wasn't sure when.
"I hit the No. 1 once", Ortiz said. It's pretty far. My comment based on those numbers was, like, I started just getting behind the history of this organization. Ortiz will be the 10th Red Sox player to be so honored. Boston could use Ortiz's booming bat in its lineup as the team ranks tied for 27th in the league in home runs (70) and 24th in slugging percentage (.414).
"But perhaps the most important reason [the honor is deserved] is reflected by the presence of these young athletes at this ceremony", said Werner.
"Man, the little guy", Ortiz said, referring to Pedroia.
I don't need to go over Ortiz's resume of accomplishments because everyone knows them by now.
There are a number of different amusing jokes in there - Anthony Mackie, who was part of the panel on the stage and plays the Falcon in the Marvel movies, is "the worst-looking falcon" he has seen since the second half of the Super Bowl. "So that happening to me today, it's a super honor to be up there, hanging with those guys". Once I got to join the Minnesota Twins, Kirby was already working in the front office. But I can't wait to see what he has in store for us in the future. "It was somebody that was very special to my career even if it was early in my career". The gate, appropriately C34, is adorned with photos of Ortiz's top 10 Red Sox moments and his jersey.
