Jared Kushner, a chief adviser to President Donald Trump, is arriving in Israel on Wednesday to embark on a quest for elusive Middle East peace.

"He offered the condolences to the bereaved family from the United States president, who spoke to his son-in-law on the way and asked that he be kept updated about the visit", a close friend of the Malka family told Israel's Ynet news.

The move comes ahead of a scheduled visit by a USA delegation to discuss prospects for reviving the stagnant peace process, which, according to Palestinian presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh, "indicates that Israel is not interested in US efforts and is serious about thwarting these efforts as it did with previous USA administrations".

In May, Kushner and Greenblatt both accompanied the President on his visit to Jerusalem and Bethlehem to discuss a peace agreement.

The resolution marked a striking rupture with past practice by President Barack Obama who had the US abstain rather than veto the measure as president-elect Donald Trump demanded. Most of the world considers settlements built on occupied land illegal under worldwide law, a position Israel disputes.

The two countries have a long history of covert defense cooperation, and Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in Israeli technology connected to cybersecurity, desalination and agriculture.

Construction begins just a day before a delegation of Trump Administration officials are headed to Israel and the West Bank to talk with officials in an attempt to kickstart the peace process. "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?" In that period, some 251 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire.
