Following the tragic fire in London's Grenfell tower which resulted in the loss of over 79 lives, Simon Cowell brought together a cast of over 50 artists to sing "Bridge Over Troubled Water".
Fifty of Britain's biggest musical names contributed to the cover of Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge over Troubled Water, which has now been declared the second fastest-selling single of the year, according to the Official Charts Company.
Artists For Grenfell's Bridge Over Troubled Water is now the second fastest-selling single of the year, second to Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You, which opened with almost 227,000 copies in its release week back in January.
The roster includes One Direction members Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson along with Bastille, Dua Lipa, Geri Halliwell, James Blunt, Jessie J, Leona Lewis, Robbie Williams, Rita Ora, the Who's Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, and more.
According to the Official Charts Company, a total of 170,000 sales have been recorded across digital and streaming, with just under 169,000 of those sales coming from downloads.
Five London Tower Blocks Evacuated Over Fire Safety Concerns
As well as possible manslaughter, police will consider health and safety offences and breaches of other building regulations. Residents will be allowed into their flats at the weekend to collect more possessions under escort from the fire brigade.
The tune was released on Wednesday (21Jun17), with fans rushing to congratulate Simon for his role in organising the track, from which all proceeds will go to The London Community Foundation.
He said afterwards: "I said it has got to have local people involved, voices on the record".
The single has also claimed the 10-year record for sales on an opening day with 120,000 units sold.
The Artists for Grenfell hit has ended Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber's run at the top of the charts with Despacito, while DJ Khaled, Rihanna & Bryson Tiller's Wild Thoughts debuts at three.
