World joins India in Yoga Day celebrations

Lucknow is holding celebration for International Yoga day and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath started the celebration with nearly 50,000 participants joining them.

The Indian Embassy in Beijing and consulates in other cities organised yoga events, well-attended by people from all walks of life. Many different countries and cultures are now connecting to India through yoga.

Yoga has also played a big role in bridging India with the world, he claimed.

"Yoga is not political and it is not religious".

The Indian embassy termed the event as a cultural milestone in which the ancient Indian art was performed atop the Chinese marvel.

"CREDAI congratulates all of you on the occasion of International Yoga Day".

In the run up to International Yoga Day, which is observed today and its third year, events across the country have been taking place with local governments in small towns staging yoga events in innovative fashion.

Speaking at the venue ahead of Prime Minister Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked volunteers for waiting patiently despite rainfall.

Many AR, CRPF and CISF personnel also took part in observing the International Day of Yoga. Further focusing on the importance of yoga, Modi said that yoga is one platform which attaches everyone together as one and no one around the world has questioned the benefits of yoga.

The Yoga day was also obsereved at INS Vikramaditya, the largest warship operated by India. It may be recalled that the earlier record was 35,984 participants, during a yoga session held in Delhi in 2015.

As part of International Yoga Day 2017, personnel of Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (NE) participated in mass yoga in another programme at the Coast Guard Regional Hq in Kolkata. "We may not master yoga or become teachers but we should not stop from performing yoga (asanas)", Modi said. Yoga ensures a sound mind and body, a system that is based on stability, concentration, good health, self transformation and liberation.
