22 de junio de 2017, 10:49Tehran, Jun 22 (Prensa Latina) Iranian leaders called today for a worldwide mobilization against the Israeli occupation of Palestine and in defense of Jerusalem, a holy city with which millions of Muslims sympathize with every last Friday of the Ramadan.

In Tehran's Vali-ye Asr street, three mid-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles were displayed, including the Zolfaghar missile that Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards used on Sunday to target bases of the IS in eastern Syria.

Rouhani told reporters that the rally was Iran's response to the USA violations of the "rights of people" of Iran after the Senate last week approved new sanctions on Tehran over its missile program, something Congress is expected to decide on soon.

This year's commemoration comes amid an intensifying battle for influence in the region between Shiite Iran and its Sunni arch rival Saudi Arabia who have had no diplomatic relations since January last year.

"Death to the House of Saud and Daesh (IS)", demonstrators chanted.

Marchers in Tehran were converging from various points of the city onto the Friday Prayers ceremony at Tehran University.

Chants against the Saudi royal family and the Islamic State group mingled with the traditional cries of "Death to Israel" and "Death to America" at Jerusalem Day rallies across Iran on Friday.

However, GJM supporters took out a procession on Saturday; when police stopped them, they hurled stones and bottles. The protestors are also asking for a separate Gorkhaland, a long pending demand of the people of the hills.

The event officially kicked off at 10:30 with the mass of people on streets chanting 'Down with Israel.' The people demonstrated their hate toward Israel and its allies like the United States and the UK. "Death to America", "Death to Israel", "Death to the United Kingdom".

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said the recent history knows "nothing more evil than the Zionist regime".

This perpetual presence of the people gives a clear message to the world's Zionism that any action against our beloved country, will bring them a tougher response, and this resistance of the Iranian people will encourage and support various libertarian groups throughout the world, and weakens and destroys the Zionist regime.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani - according to the semi-official state news agency Mehr - said this week, "It has been 70 years now that the people of the region, especially the people of Palestine and the neighboring countries are suffering from aggression by the occupying Zionist regime".

Authorities unveiled a large countdown panel at Palestine Square in central Tehran, displaying the number of "days left before the destruction of Israel".

Some participants also carried placards with pictures of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and quotes about Jerusalem that are attributed to him.
