Why Denver is in good hands without Chauncey Billups

Gilbert ignored James' view and released the statement that announced the general manager's departure.

Gilbert said the decision for Griffin not to return was mutual. Yesterday the news broke that Cavs owner Dan Gilbert would not renew the contract of David Griffin and that they would pursue a new GM. There have been numerous reports that the Cavaliers are looking to add Paul George or Jimmy Butler, by giving up Kevin Love in the process. The man responsible for executing the moves that built a championship contender has been general manager David Griffin. According to the always-reliable Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Gilbert is eyeing ESPN personality and former Detroit Pistons point guard Chauncey Billups for a top basketball executive position. The Cavs will try to improve their roster this summer as superstar LeBron James enters his final season under contract.

James tweeted a thank you message to Griffin later Monday evening that began with the words "If no one appreciated you Griff".

Both players are All-Stars and play well on both ends of the floor, which is what the Cavaliers need most at this point after surrendering 121.6 points per game in the 2017 NBA Finals.

According to multiple reports, LeBron, who advocated for Griffin to get an extension, was not consulted before he and the team chose to part ways. He said that he appreciates the opportunity that he had with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Griffin was named the permanent GM in May 2014 and his first moves were hiring David Blatt to coach and drafting Andrew Wiggins. However, Griffin will most likely look for a job somewhere else and the Orlando Magic have already expressed their interest in him.

Champs-Elysees vehicle attacker was on terror watchlist: probe sources
As The Two-Way has reported , a man opened fire on police in April killing one officer and wounding two others. The attack occurred just a short distance from where a jihadist shot dead a police officer two months earlier.

Griffin was the GM for three seasons and helped the Cavs to their first-ever title in the 2016 season.?

Gilbert has owned the team for 12½ years and in that time he has yet to come to an agreement with any of the general managers in his employ on a contract extension.

Ferry left the team about a month before James departed to Miami via free agency and, like Griffin, reportedly disagreed with Gilbert about the team's direction.

Afterward, before the Cavaliers were presented with their silver conference trophy, Griffin had to be talked into joining the players on the podium. And the abrupt change in the front office on Monday seems to indicate the two were disagreeing about something, so that certainly makes sense (compensation may have been another issue). Maybe Gilbert didn't value that as much as LeBron and Griffin do/did.
