JDU MLA Ratnesh Sada said "The decision was taken at a meeting of our legislators ".
Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge termed Nitish's support to Kovind "his personal decision" and said JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav in the all-party meeting had come up with the view of deciding on the presidential candidate once the Government declares its nominee.
"This move, however, must not be seen from a political lens as this is an isolated incident and the Grand Alliance in Bihar remains intact and strong", Tyagi hurriedly added. He has said that the JD (U) will convey their decision at the meeting in Delhi on June 22.
The setback came at a meeting of JD-U legislators and MPs at which Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and several MLAs expressed their support for the NDA candidate and said his credentials, including his humble background and the fact that he is a Dalit, were good. He was once a general secretary of the party.
Earlier, after the declaration to make Ram Nath as President candidate, Nitish Kumar met him in Bihar. No wonder, Nitish supported Modi when Opposition questioned surgical strike a year ago.
Amid speculation that the Congress might field former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, who called on party president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday evening, the Left floated the name of Prakash Ambedkar, grandson of Baba Saheb Ambedkar.
This development comes following the announcement of him being the NDA's candidate for presidential polls, due next month.

It remains to be seen whether the Bahujan Samaj Party, which has also said that it can not oppose a Dalit candidate unless the opposition has a more popular Dalit nominee, will attend the opposition meeting. "Suggestions from all the parties will be heard and then a decision would be taken", Kharge told ANI.
The Presidential election is scheduled for July 17.
