More than 200 firms have submitted proposals to build the structure, including Las Vegas's Gleason Partners, which proposes a wall of steel, cement and solar panels. "We're talking about the southern border".

Trump suggested at a rally Wednesday night in Iowa that a solar wall would "create energy and pay for itself".

Mr Trump told cheering supporters at a campaign-style rally in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday that he would "give you an idea that nobody has heard about yet".

He lauded them for electing him and he offered a new idea on building that border wall he talked about so much while campaigning in Iowa.

"Think about it, the higher it goes, the more valuable it is. And that's good, Right?"

Cameroon manager Hugo Broos believes only a win against Australia can give them hope of progressing in the Confederations Cup . Meanwhile, Australia will play Cameroon in St Petersburg tonight with both teams knowing they can ill afford another loss.

President Trump is reported to have first raised the prospect of a "solar wall" with Republican congressional leaders earlier this month, with Axios reporting that the United States president told lawmakers they could talk about the idea "as long as they said it was his idea".

And, while Trump painted Wall Street executives as champions of the economy in his speech on Wednesday, he strongly criticized them in January 2016 at a rally in Iowa.

He added: "Solar wall, panels, beautiful". He also said that Mexico would pay for construction of the wall, which President Enrique Peña Nieto has rejected.

Trump claims the wall will curb immigration between Mexico and the USA and has argued that Mexico itself will foot the bill - a notion that Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto has not supported.
