Following the announcement, Prime Minister Modi reached out to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh to seek Congress' support for Kovind.

Ironically, Kumar's ties with BJP, which was then an alliance partner, took a nose dive when he had backed Pranab Mukherjee's candidature in the 2012 presidential polls though he was a member of the National Democratic Alliance. "After our support, I do not think it will be hard for the BJP to get him elected", Thackeray told reporters at his residence "Matoshree" in Mumbai. "We will go by whatever is decided in the meet tomorrow", Prasad said.

"There should be no talk about whether a Dalit should be there (be a President). caste or religion. If that is so, we are not interested in backing him".

The numbers seem to be clearly in favour of the NDA candidate as some non-NDA non-UPA parties, including the BJD, YSRCP, TDP and TRS, have announced support for Mr Kovind.

"In turn, I suggested him two names which he said the BJP will consider".

Shocking video of police shooting wasn't enough to convict
The defense argued that Castile was under the influence of marijuana and did not comply with the officer's instructions. His girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds , recorded the moments after the shooting and streamed the incident on Facebook .

The presidential nominee, who arrived in Delhi on June 19, hours after his name was announced by the BJP, has been accorded a 'Z+' cover of NSG commandos.

The Sena, however, reiterated that Sena's "first choice" for next President was Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, followed by agro-scientist M.S. Swaminathan. To start with there was heavy betting that Shiv Sena will definitely oppose whomsoever BJP propose as candidate. The Congress is desperately looking for a credible Dalit to put up as a joint Opposition candidate and may finally settle for former Speaker Meira Kumar but regardless of that no one stands a chance against the NDA nominee.

The BJP-led NDA (including Sena) has total of 52 MPs. The OPS faction has 12 MLAs and 12 MPs from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The senior Congress leader was in Patna to participate in the iftar hosted by his state party unit. The total value of MP votes of the UPA is 10,620.
