Earlier on Monday, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced that the Sunday attack on the "terrorists" in Syria's eastern region of Deir ez-Zor had been coordinated with the Syrian government. Field operatives from the Quds Force, the branch of the Guards responsible for operations outside Iran's borders, gathered intelligence on the targets inside Syria before the strike, the Guards' statement said.More than 170 "terrorists" including some commanders were killed in the missile strike, their statement said. "American officials should know that whenever we need to technically test a missile, we will do so and will not wait for their permission", Rouhani said in a news conference.
Military leaders and officials in Iran, a predominantly Shi'ite country, often refer to Sunni Muslim radicals as Takfiris.
But Iranian state-run media said the missile strikes carried a greater message to Iran's perceived enemies - Israel, Saudi Arabia and the U.S.
Rahimi, a member of the parliamentary committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, recalled that the IRGC had warned that those terrorist attacks in Tehran would not go unanswered.
It sends "a message to the Saudi-led alliance that "our missiles have the range and the accuracy to strike anywhere in the region".
While the US and Russian Federation have used an established hotline to deconflict air operations in Syria and prevent miscalculations between the two major powers, Davis said that because of the urgency of the threat, the deconfliction line was not used prior to the action against the drone. The extremists increasingly have fled to Deir el-Zour as the Islamic State group's de facto capital of Raqqa has come under punishing US -led airstrikes. Led by the IRGC, about 10,000 Iranian combat troops are in Syria fighting alongside thousands of fighters from Hezbollah, Lebanon's Tehran-affiliated Shi'ite militia, and assorted Shi'ite militias.
Iran backs Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in his fight against anti-government rebel groups and ISIS, which is primarily based in the Syrian city of Raqqa.
Russian hackers targeted 21 US states during election
At this point, he said the agency began analyzing and sharing this information with federal, state and local partners. In early August 2016, he said, he even "floated the idea" of designating USA election infrastructure as critical.
General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, who heads the Revolutionary Guards' aerospace wing, earlier told state television: "The missiles were fired from Iran and they passed over Iraq and landed in Syria". "There was no operational need to attack ISIS from within Iranian territory". Iran claimed that multiple Islamic State members were killed in the attacks and that parts of a weapons depot were destroyed.
For most of the last two years the USA and Russian Federation have co-ordinated their different campaigns in the crowded skies over Syria, but as their allied forces converge in the east that could prove more hard.
A former IRGC leader took to Twitter to reiterate the point that while the missile strike targeted ISIS it also served as a warning to Saudi and the U.S. By Monday, a key ally of President Bashar al-Assad, Russia, had suspended a pact used to prevent crashes with the us -led coalition in the skies over Syria and was threatening to target American jets.
"Daesh is retreating from Iraq and that is thanks to the government's trust in these young devoted forces", Khamenei said.
Moscow has condemned the USA downing of the Syrian government fighter jet after it dropped bombs nears US partner forces.
Still, analysts caution that Tehran's rhetoric may be more for domestic consumption.
