A farmer in Kerala's Kozhikode district committed suicide outside a village administrative office in the Chembanodu area, saying revenue officials had refused to accept his land tax multiple times, IANS reported.
Kavilpurayidathil Joy alias Thomas, 57, was found hanging from the front grill of the Chembanoda village office at around 9 pm on Wednesday night. The State Revenue Department has ordered a probe. A village assistant, Sileesh, was suspended in connection with the incident.
Police said Kaavilpurayidathil Joy (57) went to the Chembanod VAO in the district again yesterday for the goal after several attempts in the past one and a half years failed to bear fruit as the officials cited some reason or the other.
After meeting Joy's relatives, the Collector said, "I'll ensure that tax on the property will be collected today itself".

These include Barcelona star Lionel Messi and his father Jorge, who were both handed 21-month jail terms for a €4.1 million. Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez has dismissed rumors suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave the club.
"The state cabinet will take a compassionate approach in this case and will do the needful", Mani told the media here. Joy and his family had also staged a sit-in protest near the village office. Joy had earlier complained in the village office about the non-acceptance of the land tax. District collector U V Jose visited the place and sought reports from the village officials.
A couple of days back, Joy had threatened to commit suicide if village officials continued to harass him like this, but they ignored him. Reports, quoting police sources and his family members have said that that harassment and bribe demand by the staff in the village office had led to his suicide.
Kozhikode District Collector UV Jose who arrived to pacify the furious locals assured action against the erring officials. The farmer is survived by his wife and three children.
