Star Wars' Han Solo spinoff film loses directors - Western Mass News - WGGB/WSHM

Han Solo directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are parting ways with Lucasfilm, leaving the film with production almost wrapped.

This upcoming Star Wars movie is set to arrive in theaters in less than a year, and it has already progressed nicely in terms of casting.

Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, called Lord and Miller "talented filmmakers", who had assembled an "incredible" cast and crew. But I'm only speculating - there are a multitude of reasons that could have caused the "creative differences" that led to their exit.

"Unfortunately, our vision and process weren't aligned with our partners on this project", said Lord and Miller in a statement. We normally aren't fans of the phrase "creative differences" but for once this cliché is true. "We are really proud of the fantastic and world-class work of our cast and crew", explained former directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Still, the May 2018 release date remains unchanged.

The Han Solo anthology film has been actively filming in London since February. However, though The Flash was announced as part of the original DCEU slate, it has since lost two directors and is now without a director and release date. But for two directors to leave during production, with three weeks of shooting left on the schedule no less, that is not a very good sign. Directing a Star Wars-adjacent film would have been a big departure from the likes of Jump Street and the LEGO Movie's animation, for one. Lucasfilm already has the Star Wars Expanded Universe line of books and comics featured several novels about the scoundrel's younger days.

The unbelievably stacked cast includes Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian, Joona Suotamo as a young Chewie, Woody Harrelson as Beckett (a criminal with a heart of gold-type figure, and also mentor to young Han Solo), and Emilia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thandie Newtorn and Michael Kenneth Williams in yet-to-be-named roles.
