The 28-year-old is desperate to sort his future out before Chelsea's players reconvene for pre-season training in July for fear of being left out in the cold by the Blues and, potentially, Spain's squad for next summer's World Cup in Russian Federation.

Costa had become a fan favourite on the terraces of Stamford Bridge for his goalscoring ability and explosive temperament, and has helped Chelsea two Premier League titles and a League Cup since he arrived in west London for £32m in July 2014.

This is despite Atletico being hit by a transfer ban, which would prevent them from registering Costa as part of their squad until January, meaning they plan to loan him out after signing him.

Understandably, the forward is desperate to get his future sorted as soon as possible.

The Spain worldwide has a record of 59 goals in 120 games for Chelsea, helping the club to two Premier League titles in the last three seasons, and scoring in two cup finals.

The Blues meant to sell him this summer but had been concerned Conte's text would devalue Costa's transfer value.

Antonio Conte is close to agreeing to sign a new contract at Chelsea after positive talks, according to Sky in Italy.

It is understood Chelsea are willing to increase the 47-year-old's salary to around £9.5million-a-year and expect to make headway on transfers this week.
