The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final saw India fall to an embarrassing defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Pakistan.
"What have you done, Virat?" read one placard held up by a disappointed Indian fan after Pakistan crushed India by 180 runs to script the biggest-ever victory in a Champions Trophy final.
His century set up Pakistan's massive total of 338-4, and they went on to dismiss India for 158.
Amir finished with three for 16 in six overs and Hasan Ali, who kick-started Pakistan's revival in their group-win over top-ranked South Africa, ended the match when Jasprit Bumrah gloved behind to gleeful captain and wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed.
Amir, whose career was almost ended across London by a ban and jail sentence for his involvement in a spot-fixing scan during a 2010 Test at Lord´s, was in superb form after a back spasm forced him out of the semi-final win over England.
This is the second time Pakistan have won a global title in the 50-over format after their triumph at the 1992 World Cup.
The stunning turnaround in form of Pakistan, which was thrashed by India in their opening game of the tournament and largely written off, has gripped the nation of 190 million people. He was the player of the tournament for the previous edition of Champions Trophy.
Overall Pakistan had been the better side in every respect: batting better, fielding better and bowling better.
This was Pakistan's largest margin of victory, by runs, in 129 ODIs against India, surpassing their 159-run success at Delhi in 2005.
Tables turned as Pakistan crush rivals India in final
Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman's century 114 off 106 helped his side put a huge total on the scoreboard. "Credit goes to my boys". India captain Virat Kohli could do little more than praise an opponent who did everything right on the day, reported the ICC .
Pakistan's victory against India was as spectacular as their campaign in the tournament.
"Credit to everyone for standing up and showing that resilience and reaching the finals - [but] we were outplayed in all departments".
India's bowlers had little to cheer about, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar the pick of the bunch, finishing on 1/44 from 10 overs including two maidens.
The collapse continued when left-handed opener Dhawan was caught behind off Amir by Sarfraz.
Former captain MS Dhoni had rescued India from many a dire position in his long career.
In fact, India defeated Pakistan in by 124 runs in their tournament opener at Edgbaston, which made the Green's championship win even harder to predict. You have to understand whether you made the batsman hit where you wanted him to hit and take a risk, or you have bowled a bad ball. Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja tried to stage a comeback with an 80-run stand, but it was never going to be enough.
India captain Virat Kohli is the only cricketer among the world's 100 highest-paid sportsmen, ranking 89th with annual income of $22 million, according to a list compiled by Forbes. "No one goes out there to throw their wicket away or get out".
The already considerable scoreboard pressure became impossible for India to cope with when Mohammad Amir reduced them to 33 for three.
