A further 10 people have been left injured after a white van ploughed into worshippers outside Muslim Welfare House, close to the Finsbury Park Mosque, at just after midnight last night, reports the BBC.
A vehicle struck pedestrians near a mosque in north London early Monday morning, causing several casualties, police said.
A man who said he helped tackle the van driver to the ground and hold him there until police arrived said the suspect told him he had, "wanted to kill more Muslims", according to CBS News.
"The attack unfolded whilst a man was receiving first aid from the public at the scene", Basu said.
Authorities say a residential area in Cardiff, Wales, is also being searched.
The investigation of the incident is being carried out by the Counter Terrorism Command.
Eight people injured were taken to three separate hospitals, and two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said. "And we will stop at nothing to defeat it".
"We are working hard to protect all communities and the public will see additional officers patrolling across the city and at Muslim places of worship".
The van driver tried to escape but people grabbed him.
"We managed to extinguish any flames of anger or mob rule that might have taken charge, " he told reporters, adding he was acting with "a group of mature brothers".

Cardinal Vincent Nichols of Westminster has offered prayers for the victims of a terror attack in north London that targeted worshippers outside a mosque in the early hours of Monday.
The van drove up onto the sidewalk and into the crowd.
Witnesses said they saw people at the scene grab the man, pulling him from the van and started hitting him.
If it is confirmed as an attack, it would appear to be one in which anti-Muslim operators adopt the tactics of Islamist terrorists.
Police said they had deployed extra officers "to reassure communities, especially those observing Ramadan".
"There'll be a zero tolerance toward hate crime", Mr Khan said.
Security Minister Ben Wallace said the suspect was not known to security services, and was believed to have acted alone. Many police cars and ambulances responded to the incident.
A man leapt out of the van and stabbed at least one person, the Evening Standard newspaper reported, citing witnesses.
Earlier this month on London Bridge, Islamic extremists used a vehicle and then knives to kill eight people and wound many others on the bridge and in the popular nearby Borough Market area.
