Trump tweetstorm slams Russian Federation investigation

While Rosenstein has some supervisory responsibilities for the FBI's investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and whether any Trump aides conspired with that campaign, the probe is being led by Mueller, the special counsel Rosenstein appointed in the wake of Comey's firing.

Comey last week told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence that he authorized the leak of the existence of the memorandum through a Columbia Journalism professor and that the reason for the leak was to highlight the need for the appointment of a special prosecutor.

One memo recounts a February request from Trump, during a private meeting in the Oval Office, that Comey end an investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. "Sad!" the president tweeted Friday.

President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday for the first time that he's being investigated for his role in firing Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, calling the probe a "witch hunt".

Mueller has the authority to investigate whether Trump tried to obstruct justice which is a potentially impeachable offense.

As for the "witch hunt" claims, Friday wasn't the first time Trump used that term to referr to news reports surrounding the investigations.

And on the video referral system ( Portugal had a goal ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee): "It's the new rule". But Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez equalised just eight minutes later with a header from the edge of the six-yard box.

The White House has directed questions to outside legal counsel, which has not responded.

Mr Trump previously claimed he was the victim of a "witch hunt" in May after Mr Mueller, a former FBI director, was appointed to lead an investigation into his campaign's alleged ties to Russian Federation.

Former FBI director James Comey told Congress last week that Trump pressured him to drop an investigation into his former national security advisor, Mike Flynn, who was forced to quit for lying about his links to Moscow.

Examining such possible charges will allow investigators to interview key administration figures, including Attorney-General Jeff Sessions, Deputy Attorney-General Rod Rosenstein and possibly Mr Trump himself, said the source familiar with Mr Mueller's investigation.

Comey testified in a Senate hearing last week that he was sacked "because of the Russian Federation investigation", taking Trump at his word after the president made similar remarks during a television interview. A recent Washington Post report said Trump is being investigated for possible obstruction of justice by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

The Washington Post, citing unidentified officials, carried the report on Wednesday.
