Donald Trump tweets his frustration with Russia investigation

Sekulow also appeared on CNN's "State of the Union", "Fox News Sunday" and NBC's "Meet the Press" where he repeatedly asserted that the president is not now under investigation.

Sekulow made four TV appearances on Sunday to clarify the situation.

On Friday, the president tweeted, "I'm being investigated for firing the Federal Bureau of Investigation director by the man who told me to fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation director". The White House used a memo he wrote to justify Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, but Trump's firing of Comey may now be part of the probe.

Yet Trump's angry tweets last Friday underscored the near-impossible challenge his advisers and legal team have in trying to get him to avoid weighing in on an active probe. Comey testified to Congress that one of his "leadership team" at the FBI did not want him even to assure the president in private that he was not a subject of the Russian Federation investigation because the inquiry into the Trump campaign's dealings with Russian Federation might eventually focus on Trump himself. "The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to the Washington Post", he said. We have not received nor are we aware of any investigation of the president of the United States. He maintained that the president's actions won't prevent any of the investigations from proceeding, and that getting to the bottom of what happened would benefit all involved, including President Trump.

Sekulow added that he thinks Mr. Trump will address the issue of any alleged tape recordings of Mr. Trump's conversation with Comey "in the week ahead", saying the tapes were not "priority number one" amid Mr. Trump's announcement to roll back President Obama's Cuba policies and Wednesday's shooting in Alexandria, Virginia.

The Senate intelligence committee is in the early stages of its probe and is looking at whether anyone involved in the campaign shared information with the Russians, said Senator Angus King of ME, an independent who caucuses with Democrats.

The lawyer also suggested Twitter's character limit may be partly to blame.

BRICS summit highlights climate change, trade, terrorism
India will want the BRICS grouping to put out a strong statement on terrorism as it holds a summit in Xiamen, southern China, in September which PM Modi will attend.

But the President is yet to heed that advice, tweeting on Sunday: "The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt".

Dianne Feinstein, top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said she was "increasingly concerned" that Trump will fire both Mueller and Rosenstein.

"You don't know that he's not under investigation", Wallace said.

"I wanna be very clear here, and very direct", Sekulow told NBC's Chuck Todd.

The FBI "doesn't sit around all day and read tweets", said Rubio, a Republican from Florida who's a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Cohen said the first official communication that a target is under investigation typically comes when prosecutors begin requesting documents and other evidence. The president "wants people to say that", he said.

Mr Mueller, the special counsel named by the Justice Department to probe the Russia matter, is investigating whether anyone associated with Mr Trump or his campaign had any illegal dealings with Russian officials or others with ties to the Kremlin.
