When Wallace pressed him on the apparent contradictions in his statements, Sekulow insisted that he had been clear that the president was not under investigation, and accused the Fox News host of "putting words in my mouth".

'Let me be clear, the president is not under investigation.

Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, attorney Jay Sekulow said the "president is not under investigation by the special counsel".

"You're reading more into the tweet than what is there", he said.

"The fact of the matter is the president has not been and is not under investigation", Sekulow said on CBS' "Face the Nation," one of four political shows where he appeared on Sunday.

Sekulow, who is Chief Counsel of the American Center for Law and Justice, repeatedly numerous same lines during an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper. Sekulow said the tweet "was in response to the Washington Post piece, it's that simple". The president is not a subject or target of investigation.

The conservative lawyer Sekulow, chief counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice, is assisting Trump as Mueller also probes into the potential obstruction of justice by the president in the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

He lashed out at a top Justice Department official overseeing the inquiry, reflecting his mounting frustration with the unrelenting controversy that has consumed his early presidency.

The White House did not deny the report, instead decrying the "FBI leak of information" regarding Trump as "outrageous, inexcusable and illegal". He maintained that the president's actions won't prevent any of the investigations from proceeding, and that getting to the bottom of what happened would benefit all involved, including President Trump.
