Rory McIlroy hits back after 'bored' jibe

Rory McIlroy had a ideal response for former major champion Steve Elkington on Twitter Friday. That's despite having been two-under through two.

McIlroy did make a tweak to his swing on Friday after consultation with his coach Michael Bannon, but was generally mystified by his form over that first 30 holes as he felt he had "played really, really good" in practice.

Go and lie down Steve Elkington, you're done. Indeed, there has never have been a Grand Slam event staged where so numerous elite missed the cut.

They were joined by the likes of Open champion Henrik Stenson, Olympic gold medallist Justin Rose and Europe's two young hotshots, Jon Rahm and Thomas Pieters. Perhaps that's to do with the unusually low scores posted in the opening round.

"Of course I'm hungry and I want to win more tournaments as quickly as possible". "If I get the ball on the fairway, I can give myself some chances and some looks at birdies". So, there are a lot of things that I could have done better.

United Kingdom finance minister Hammond seeks 'pragmatic' Brexit
A spokeswoman for Mr Hammond did not immediately respond to a request for a comment on the report. The EU has pressed for openness and a press conference is expected at the end of the first day.

"I'm hungry, but I'm not going to force it".

McIlroy blamed his disappointing start on "a little bit of rust", adding that his timing "was a little off", but insisted that his recent injury hadn't hindered him. One was the fact there was no reaction from his troublesome ribs to all the time he spent hacking his ball out of the knee-deep rough. "So, no, that's totally fine".

For the first time since the world rankings were introduced in 1986, the top three all missed the cut - with Dustin Johnson and Jason Day sharing McIlroy's fate.

Remember what McIlroy was like at the Ryder Cup a year ago, the brilliant golf that flowed when he felt he was being goaded? The 2016 Masters champion Danny Willett, meanwhile, was one of only four players not to break 80.
