The FBI said Thursday a 9 mm handgun and a 7.62 mm caliber rifle were found after Hodgkinson shot Scalise and three others Wednesday morning at a ball field outside Washington where Republican lawmakers were practicing for a charity baseball game.
He has been identified as a 66-year-old man from Belleville, Illinois, which is a small city just across the Mississippi River from the city of St Louis, Missouri.
Suzanne Hodgkinson said she didn't want to comment on her husband's political views, but said she was not on the best terms with him. Mrs. Hodgkinson said her husband sold nearly everything from his businesses before he moved to the east coast.
Former Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille, who chatted with Hodgkinson at the gym, said he assumed the man was homeless because he wore pretty much the same outfit every day and carried a bag full of extra clothes. When asked further about their living situation, she said it was a personal matter. "Nothing I can really put my finger on, but he was just not a pleasant person". Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Tim Slater said the Federal Bureau of Investigation needs the public's help in piecing together Hodgkinson's whereabouts and activities while he was in Alexandria. She added she didn't notice any sign that he was going to commit any kind of crime, and did not know he took his guns with him when they left.
"Those kinds of threats are not going to stop me from doing what our job is, which is to represent the people in south Louisiana and to help address numerous problems that are in government right now that need to be fixed", Graves said.
