One of the Capitol Police officers injured in Wednesday's shooting has thrown out the first pitch at the congressional baseball game - to thunderous applause.
Also hurt but released from hospitals were two Capitol Police officers, David Bailey and Crystal Griner, and House GOP aide Zack Barth.
A Secret Servicer officer was injured Wednesday evening by a vehicle he was trying to stop from disrupting President Donald Trump's motorcade back from the hospital where two victims of the attack on a congressional baseball practice are being treated.
At least six people, including Scalise, were hospitalized after alleged shooter James Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois, opened fire at the Congressional baseball practice and engaged in a shootout with law enforcement officials. Authorities also were going over a cellphone, computer and camera taken from Hodgkinson's white van, which was parked near the ball field.
Shortly after the shooting, Bernie Sanders, the former candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, said on the Senate floor that the gunman was apparently a volunteer for his campaign past year.
Police audio obtained by media recorded a flood of frantic calls: "Shots being fired. By the same token, I think our fans will be just as motivated", he told Roll Call last week.
Sanders swiftly responded to reports the suspect had volunteered on his presidential campaign. "I'm prayerful he will pull through, and I hope he does", he said.
"Let me be as clear as I can be". Sanders said he denounced the violence "in the strongest possible terms".
The Republican who sponsored the bill, Rep. Jeff Duncan, S.C., happened to be at the baseball diamond Wednesday morning.

But Jim Comey testified that he was the person that first requested a private meeting with the president on January 6. All this was done under oath to speak the truth with factual records to corroborate Comey's statement.

After an all-members briefing where Democrats and Republicans held hands and prayed, House Speaker Paul Ryan and top Democrat Nancy Pelosi addressed the somber chamber and proclaimed lawmakers were "united". Democratic former Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille said he had spoken often with the man on recent mornings at the nearby YMCA. Four people were shot and one congressman was shot in the hip.
Scalise was fielding balls at second base when he was shot, according to lawmakers present.
"I was batting, we heard a loud noise...."
Hodgkinson later died in hospital from his wounds. "My colleagues were targeted today by someone that wanted to kill them".
The committee chairman who oversees Capitol Police is advising members of Congress to review their home office security. In the last Congress, Scalise introduced a bill that would make it easier for gun dealers to do business across state lines and co-sponsored a measure that would compel states to allow people to carry guns if they were licensed to do so in another state. "America is praying for you and America is praying for all of the victims of this bad shooting".
A day after the shooting of a congressman and others at the Republicans' practice in Alexandria, Virginia, members of Congress are wondering whether they're safe enough.
"An injury to the colon, an injury to the intestine, we'll go ahead and fix those or cut those segments of bowel out", Hunt explained.
