Mrs Foster arrived in Downing Street with Nigel Dodds at lunchtime for negotiations with the Prime Minister but they decamped to Parliament to allow Mrs May and the DUP's deputy leader to speak in the Commons.
After House Speaker John Bercow was re-elected without challenge, a chastened May quipped: "At least someone got a landslide".
"In my humble opinion, I think that one of the elements of the outcome of the election was certainly not a support of the hard Brexit", he told reporters at the parliament in Strasbourg, France.
DUP leader Arlene Foster, who travelled to Westminster for talks with the Tories on Tuesday, said she hoped a deal could be reached "sooner rather than later".
Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the opposition Labour Party, which saw its number of parliamentary seats and share of the vote increase, said there could be another election this year or early in 2018 after Thursday's vote produced no clear victor.
His remarks came as the resumed talks process took a back seat as the political focus largely shifted to Westminster and the anticipated parliamentary deal between the DUP and the Conservatives.
In an attempt to avoid a second election that could deepen Britain's worst political turmoil since last June's shock vote to leave the EU, May held talks with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) on Tuesday.
But May faces a hard balancing act: Divisions over Europe helped sink the premierships of Margaret Thatcher, John Major and David Cameron, and many of her lawmakers and party membership support a sharp break with the EU.

The stakes for May are high. Without a so-called confidence and supply deal with the DUP, her party risks losing the vote next week on the Queen's Speech, which lays out the agenda for the government.
He continued to later say: "If there are difficulties with the Northern Ireland executive or with any one of a number of things that might well arise during the Brexit negotiations, it's very important that there's an honest broker - and the only honest broker can be the United Kingdom government".
"The Labour Party stands ready to offer strong and stable leadership in the national interest", he said.

Meanwhile, the chief European Union negotiator has told the Financial Times that the clock is ticking on Brexit talks, and that Britain should be wary of further delays.
"Next week, it will be three months after the sending of the Article 50 letter", Mr Barnier said, referencing the UK's formal withdrawal notification letter.
