As with all Trump and Trump-related flubs, this spread like wildfire and was quickly turned into a meme. The incident left many of his 31 million Twitter followers pretty baffled, even by Trump's pretty high standards for random social media engagement.

Starting with a wee-hours tweet that contained the mystifying nonword "covfefe", Trump on Wednesday unleashed a string of tweets that showed the president was holding nothing back, on matters both trivial and consequential.

But that's hard for people to believe, especially since the tweet wasn't a complete sentence and was deleted from the president's personal account before 6 a.m. Trump was relatively quiet on Twitter during a nine-day trip to Middle East and Europe but resumed tweet storms after returning home on Saturday.

Hours after President Donald Trump's midnight tweet using the mysterious term "covfefe", someone snapped it up as their vanity plate in Maine.

The tweet led to an apparent run on vanity plates featuring the botched word, not only in NY but other states.

Trump tweeted "Despite the constant negative press covfefe", a clause with no context, at 12:06 a.m. ET Wednesday.
