In fact, officials say Ronaldo set up shell companies (based in the Virgin Islands) as a "screen" to keep the money from Spain's Tax Office. The tax evasion relates to a three-year period starting in 2011.

"Real Madrid CF hopes that the Justice will act as quickly as possible so that its innocence can be demonstrated as soon as possible".

The footballer has been charged with defrauding the Spanish tax office.

Real Madrid have declared that they are "absolutely convinced" that Cristiano Ronaldo will demonstrate his innocence over allegations of tax evasion.

However, Gestifute - the company owned by the 32-year-old's agent Jorge Mendes - issued a statement detailing their client's arrangements for payments related to his image rights and insisted "there has never been concealment, or the slightest intention to conceal".

Meanwhile Ronaldo, who recently paid an extra $7 million in back taxes for 2014, claims he's not too anxious about the proceedings.

Indeed, it is only by virtue of Falcinelli’s prowess in the final third that Crotone still remains in contention to survive. In Romelu Lukaku, Koeman has a player with the capability of firing Everton to far headier heights than seventh place.

"It's only goal was to create a screen to hide the totality of his image rights income from the Spanish tax authorities", read the prosecutor's statement.

In his announcement Tuesday, the Spanish prosecutor said Messi's case was a precedent for the charges filed against Ronaldo.

"Always, man", Ronaldo said Wednesday as he walked from a Portugal team bus into the Lisbon airport.

According to the prosecutor office, the Real Madrid player defrauded 1.4 million euros in 2011, 1.7 million euros in 2012, 3.2 million euros in 2013 and 8.5 million euros in 2014. The former Manchester United player has led Madrid to back-to-back Champions League titles and its first Spanish league in five seasons, and helped Portugal to win last year's European Championship.

Soccer stud Cristiano Ronaldo does not mind taking off his clothes and we are more than fine with that.

Argentina worldwide and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi was sentenced to a 21-month jail sentence and €2.09m fine a year ago for tax fraud. This, of course, unlikely to happen as he is a first-time non-violent offender.
