No hitter has tallied five hits, four homers, and ten RBI in an Major League Baseball game - ever.
Gennett ended an 0-for-19 slump during the Reds' 4-2 win over the Cardinals on Monday. He entered the night hitting 1-for-his-last-20 with three home runs on the entire season.
The last time that happened to him was in 2013 against this very same Reds team. His grand slam came in his second at-bat against the starter. The Tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth, but Bud Norris struck out Alex Avila for his 11th save. He homered twice off right-hander John Gant, in the fourth and sixth innings, then went deep off John Brebbia in the eighth.
Gennett's homers included a grand slam in the third inning, a two-run homer in the fourth inning, a solo homer in the sixth inning, and a line-drive, two-run homer in the eighth inning, USA Today noted.
Tim Adleman (4-2) gave up one run - on Stephen Piscotty's homer - in seven innings. He then also reached that total last April and September, in perhaps a sign that the Major League Baseball tricksters were experimenting with Gennett's power sliders as his season HR high improved from nine to 14 on the year.
A right-handed hitter, Huffman has played in 43 games at Memphis, starting 25 in the outfield and eight at first base.
Cincinnati (27-30) has won nine of its past 14 meetings with St. Louis (26-30).
Dodgers select Jeren Kendall with 23rd overall pick
Kendall is a burner, one blessed with well-above-average foot speed that he puts to good use in center field and on the basepaths. Los Angeles had the 23rd overall pick of the Major League Baseball draft and elected to go hitting this time around.
Anderson (5-1) didn't allow a run for the third consecutive start, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out four in 7 2/3 innings. Zack Cozart went 2 for 3 with a double, while Billy Hamilton and Joey Votto added base hits as well in the win. He advanced on a groundout and scored on Gennett's single that got the Reds rolling. Cincinnati LHP Tony Cingrani was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list and RHP Lisalverto Bonilla was optioned to Triple-A Louisville. Cingrani had been sidelined since April 21 with a strained right oblique. Bronson Arroyo will get the start in game three and is 3-4 with a 6.24 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. He joined the Cardinals' Mark Whiten as the only players with a grand slam among four homers in a game, according to Elias. He was claimed off waivers for the Brewers prior to the start of the season and given Brandon Phillips' No. 4 (Phillips remarked recently that he was insulted the Reds gave the number away). He is 9-4 career against Cincinnati.
Baltimore trailed 4-1 after six innings and 5-3 in the ninth.
Cincinnati Reds utility man Scooter Gennett isn't a household name in baseball, but his name won't soon be forgotten after he bashed four home runs Tuesday night.
Cincinnati Reds' Scooter Gennett smiles in the dugout during the seventh inning of a baseball game against the St. Louis Cardinals, Tuesday, June 6, 2017, in Cincinnati.
His streak helped the Reds easily overcome the St. Louis Cardinals 13-1.
Up until Tuesday's game, Gennett wasn't exactly on fire coming into this particular contest against the Cardinals, CBS Sports reports.
MILWAUKEE - Chase Anderson pitched 7 2-3 shutout innings, drove in a run and won his third straight game, Hernán Pérez homered and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 5-2 on Tuesday night.
