Victor printed the report out of the NSA eavesdropping center and submitted it to The Intercept, a national security news outlet.

The charge, willful retention and transmission of national defense information, could bring victor up to 10 years in prison.

Victor is accused of "removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet", according to a federal complaint.

Victor has been jailed in neighbouring Lincoln County since her arrest, according to a booking report released by the sheriff.

Victor was held at the jail in Lincoln County, Georgia, where she had an 11-minute court appearance.

Victor was taken into custody Saturday by federal agents who executed a search warrant at her home. The NSA report was dated May 5, the same as the document victor is charged with leaking.

An FBI affidavit says victor confessed to copying and mailing the classified report when agents searched her home last Saturday.

Victor is accused of leaking an NSA report, published by The Intercept on Monday, that detailed Russian attempts to hack a voting software vendor and local election officials. She could also face a fine of up to $250,000.

"The focus tomorrow will not necessarily be on whether or not she committed the crime that she's been accused of the focus will be on one or two things, whether or not she is a flight risk, or whether or not we can do some things that will assure that she will show up for trial or court appearances when they are scheduled".

"I think they're going to try to make an example out of her because of the political climate right now", Winner-Davis said. "She is a victor", Gary said.

It was not immediately clear what the DUP's demands might be and one DUP lawmaker suggested support might come vote by vote. That did not help May, who had overseen cuts in police numbers during six years in her previous job as interior minister.

The Department of Justice has said victor admitted to the accusations against her, but Nichols, told the Associated Press "if there is a confession, the government has not shown it to me".

And there was a notation in one notebook, Solari said in which victor purportedly wrote, "I want to burn the White House down".

Her court-appointed attorney, Titus Nichols, told CNN he was unable to confirm Tuesday that the Twitter account was Winner's.

"I can't ever call her a traitor or even believe that", she added.

"We don't know how much more she knows and how much more she remembers", Solari said. He says she has never run away from anything and there's no reason to hold her. She was a linguist who speaks Pashto, Farsi and Dari - languages widely spoken in Iran and Afghanistan.

Winner posted under a pseudonym, Sara Winners, but didn't seem concerned with concealing her identity, using a photo of herself as a profile picture and posting a selfie in February.

Winner's supporters rallied in Union Square, demanding she gets fair treatment.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange also has weighed in, praising victor as a young woman "accused of courage in trying to help us know".

Reality Winner, the 25-year-old alleged NSA leaker, was arrested on Saturday for reportedly sharing highly confidential data with the press.
