The Department of Defense confirms three USA soldiers were killed in Eastern Afghanistan on Saturday.
An Afghan official says the deaths and injury stem from an attack by an Afghan soldier, who also died.
He said the Afghan soldier was killed in the incident on Saturday.
"Today at around noon an Afghan commando opened fire on USA troops in Achin district, killing two American soldiers".
The Achin district, where the attack is believed to have occurred, is described as an ISIS and Taliban stronghold.
The latest attack comes as US President Donald Trump's administration is considering sending more troops to Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation and the identities of the fallen soldiers were not released. "The soldier was also killed in the return fire", Khogyani told AFP.
Such insider attacks have happened before in Afghanistan.
