The report also said that when Kamalabai and her son went to Dussehra Maidan to meet Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and complain about the incident, police turned them away.

This unfortunately took an ugly turn earlier last week when five farmers were killed and eight others were injured in police firing.

The farmers in Madhya Pradesh were on strike since June 1 demanding loan waivers and fair prices for their produce.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia will be launching a 72-hour long satyagrah from June 14 in Bhopal to counter Chouhan's "fast for peace".

On Saturday, the families of the four farmers, who were killed in the police firing in Mandsaur, met Chouhan and requested him to call off his fast. Between 2011 and 2015, according to the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 6076 farmers had committed suicide in the state.

The BJP leaders added that the public can not be fooled around anymore as they know who was genuinely standing with the farmers.

Mariners sign shortstop Jean Segura to 5-year extension

"We are thankful to the Chief Minister for what he is doing this for us. We are going to buy the farm produce and give profitable prices for it", he assured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to double farmers' incomes over the next five years with a slew of policies.

"Chouhan should tell people whether his so-called fast was a "nautanki" or an act of repentance for his misdeeds that set the state on fire", state Congress chief spokesman K K Mishra told PTI on Saturday. There are some issues which have already been addressed and there are some on which we have to take a decision.

The Chief Minister would hold talks with farmers on Sunday as well. "Their parents came to meet me yesterday and despite such grief befalling upon them, asked me to put an end to the issue", he said.

Highlighting his various schemes for the farmers, Chouhan further said, "Whenever, there has been a crisis, I did not sit in my office and visited the farmers myself".
