The Mariners confirmed agreement Wednesday on a five-year contract extension with Segura that includes a club option for 2023. The club did not disclose financial details, but the MLB Network reported that Segura's new deal guarantees him at least $70 million.

Segura is now out with a right high-ankle sprain that could keep him on the DL for up to a month.

Mariners manager Scott Servais told MLB.com Tuesday he was optimistic about Segura's recovery and he could return to baseball activities this week.

In 2016 with Arizona, Segura hit.319 with 203 hits, 102 runs, 41 doubles, seven triples, 20 home runs, 64 RBIs and 33 steals in 153 games.

Asked if the vests may have been worn by the attackers to ensure they were shot dead, he said: "It's possible, we don't know". Corbyn's party colleague, London Mayor Sadiq Kahn, told Britain's Channel 4 News that the police force is underfunded.

"Over the past two seasons, Jean has been one of the premier offensive players in baseball", general manager Jerry Dipoto said in a statement. He was an All-Star for Milwaukee in 2013 while hitting.294 with 12 home runs, 49 RBI and 44 stolen bases. But the Mariners clearly see Segura as a long-term building block, and an average of $14 million per year though 2022 is not payroll-busting money.

The first-year Mariners infielder is now leading the American League in batting average, and the organization is showing strong signs it wants to keep him around long-term. His early success this season has already made Segura a favorite among Mariners fans, so this news has led to a lot of positive reactions on social media.

He is in his first season with the Mariners, acquired from the Diamondbacks in a five-player trade last November, and in the final year of a contract that pays him $6.2 million in 2017. Over the next two seasons, Segura hit.252/.285/.331 over 1,141 plate appearances. Due to a recent hot streak, the Mariners are within two-and-a-half games of the second Wild Card spot in the American League, showing how close the team is to breaking its postseason curse.
